“Diapasón” is inspired by the metal device, in the shape of a fork, used to tune musical instruments. Its function is to balance the sound with the sine waves that are transmitted in the air. The lack of tuning between musical notes works as a metaphor for the lack of balance in Nature.
In Diapasón, people can swing with a movement similar to the vibration of the earth’s tectonic layers, thanks to the appropriate thickness of metal plates covered with flexible stone.
During the 2021 exhibition it was exhibited along with a piece of glass from which detonated dynamite cables hung and a sound piece recorded from a cell phone.
The recording, taken on April 6, 2021 at 4:19 pm at the Yaraví quarry in Balcarce, begins with the peaceful singing of birds in the landscape, violently interrupted by the thunderous explosion of dynamite, followed by the collapse of 15 thousand tons of granite stone; A few seconds later the sound of birds returns.
The recording was not edited, lasting less than 2 minutes, enough time for the 2.2 billion year collapse.
